Dear Parents,
Welcome to the new school year! I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing summer.
Here is your child’s schedule for their specialist teachers:
Monday – Music
Tuesday – Health (Sneakers advised)
Wednesday – Gym (Sneakers required)
Thursday – Art
Friday – Library
Some reminders:
Homework is given Monday through Thursday nights. Please help your child with their homework. At the second-grade level, children may need some support and reassurance from their parents that their homework is correct. Good study habits start early, so set up a time and place for your child to do their homework, and make sure that they put both homework papers (math and spelling) back in their homework folders when they are complete. I do not send homework folders home with the children on Friday nights, as I do not assign homework over the weekend.
I expect all children to follow the classroom and school rules. Great learning is only possible when your child comes to school ready and eager to learn. Check your child’s progress form and report card to see that their work habits and efforts are “Excellent” or “Satisfactory”. If they are getting “Making Progress (MP)” or “Needs Improvement (NI)” we will need to work closely together to improve these ratings. They are not acceptable, and may jeopardize your child’s chances of going on any field trip. I do not reward poor behavior or poor effort. I have the highest expectations for your child.
Academically, your child will be participating in science lessons in conjunction with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), a phonics program called Fundations, Fountas & Pinnell Guided Reading Program, Common Core Writing program, and Eureka Math. My class is a Responsive Classroom, and you will hear your child talk about Morning Meeting and Problem-Solving meetings (both individual and group). It is an evidence-based approach that partners academic and social/emotional learning. If you would like to learn more about the Responsive Classroom model you will find more information at https://www.responsiveclassroom.org/.
If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to make an appointment to meet with me, you may leave a message with Mrs. Gray, our secretary (tel. # 767-4830), and I will get back to you as soon as possible. My email is [email protected].
You may also write a note and send it in with your child. In this way we can clear up any questions, difficulties with homework, etc. that may arise during the school year. I so enjoyed meeting all the parents and their children at the Open House. I am looking forward to a very successful school year learning about you and your child.
Sincerely, Mrs. Lemay
