Again we will be using the Eureka Math Curriculum. If you need more info to help your child please see the Great Minds link below. Also, it is imperative that your child attends school everyday for this program to be effective and most of all pays attention in class. I present many lessons in learning this Base Ten system and your child must focus on each lesson and participate in every Problem Set, which is done in class. The Problem Set is identical to the Homework, except for the numbers. I work very, very hard to make sure every child understands each lesson, so be sure you check your child's Homework Folder every night for their Problem Sets. If they got it right on the Problem Sets, then they should be able to do well on their homework. I look for persistence rather than perfection. If they are getting too frustrated then I refer you to the Bedtime Math link in the next box. |
IMPORTANT NEWS FLASH: Here is an exciting new online math link to a quick bedtime learning activity in math designed especially for children and their parents with math anxiety. To access the link just click here: bedtimemath.org

Here is a great website that has many resources that will help you to help your child with Eureka Math. There is the Zearn.org site as sell as copies of the student's workbook for every module. So if they are out sick or forget their homework you may go into the current module we are working on, which is Module 4 right now and print off their homework. Many of the children enjoy doing Sprints, which are timed tests. They do the A side and you time them for one minute, then they do the B side, for one minute also, and they try to beat the score they got on the A side. They are not competing with anyone else and it is not for a grade. The website is:

In accordance to the Common Core State Standards in Math your child needs to be proficient in all areas by the end of the school year. This means that they should be at a "3" by June. If your child is still getting 1's on their 2nd trimester report card, then this is an area of concern for both of us. If they are not already getting additional assistance from our TIMES teacher, then I will be referring them to the Response to Intervention team for evaluation. Please check out the Common Core link below so you know what your child is learning in math.
